Rabat is the capital city of Morocco and its administrative region “Rabat-Sale-Kenitra” since the beginning of the Protectorate.
It’s also called “Rabat Modern Capital and Historic City : a Shared Heritage” because of its atypical urban planning : architectural values within the context of the Maghreb, modern but also with Arab-Muslim influences, incorporating successfully the ancient city and historic heritage that we can find there such as the Kasbah of Oudaya, the Medina, the town center, the roman heritage like the Chellah and the old dynasties like the Hassan Tower, and old Mosk where the kings are buried since Mohammed V, end of protectorate (UNESCO).
Rabat has to face a choice : Develop and meet the challenges created by the globalization, or resist the impulse of transformation and stagnate.
The city is growing and now promote and regenerate its territory and infrastructures. But also culturally, it experience a real change, one of those project is MMVI : Museum Mohammed VI, the first Museum of modern arts in Rabat, that took 10 years to plan and construct.
In this dynamic, Rabat hosts the “Mawazine: Rhythms of the world” Festival once a year since 2001 in May. During one week, Rabat nightlife and cultural entertainments are completely transformed : 120 shows around the city, 7 main stages, 8 street shows, 3 open workshops animated by confirmed artists.
